Ultra Fast Fibre Broadband

The Residents’ Association are working with Openreach under a Community Fibre Partnership program, to install a new dedicated FTTP (Fibre To The Premise) fibre optic cabling network throughout the estate, providing speeds up to 300mb (Ultra Fast Fibre). The current broadband infrastructure provides FTTC (Fibre to The Cabinet) with speeds up to 80mb. Your existing telephone and broadband network is independent from the new network and therefore there will be no change for those that do not take up the option at this time.

The program is set for around 12 months and the first stage will entail surveying and replacing a number of existing cable ducts to ensure ultra-fast fibre (FTTP) is available to every home on the estate by the end of 2018.

The estate has been split into 5 different zones (see indicative plan), with work being carried out in 3 phases. Phase 1 is surveying the existing main Openreach duct infrastructure, Phase 2 is surveying the   lead-in to each property and phase 3 is pulling new Fibre cable to each property. Phases 1 and 2 are already underway in zones 1 & 2.

As the Openreach team progress through each Zone, they will identify those properties that require an additional survey of the lead-in into the house to ensure you are ready to accept the new fibre. This will then allow you to order ultra-fast fibre (FTTP) from a service provider as soon as it becomes available to them, at the end of the year. The Residents association main office will contact you individually to arrange any required appointment for the lead-in survey. Click here to see a Typical Layout

It is important to note that it is a survey of the infrastructure and if any work is required from your boundary into the house, you will be advised accordingly. The association have arranged for a communications advisor from Konextions, to work with Openreach during the Lead-in survey phase to provide advice and assistance in determining your specific requirements, both inside and outside of your house. This may require an additional visit and you will be advised at the time of your first appointment if this is required.

Any subsequent digging, laying of pipes and re-instatement works within your property boundary, will be outside of this project and you will be responsible for arranging those works and any associated costs (the Konextions adviser will be able to assist in the arrangements). To assist the Openreach engineers in surveying the lead-in and to avoid delay, it would be helpful if you could identify the point at which any existing telephone/data cable enters your house prior to any appointment.

We strongly urge/advise you to have the free survey completed now to avoid a definite delay in the future once super-fast fibre is available for you to order. Even if you feel you do not need faster broadband now, it is worth getting the infrastructure in place for when you or any potential future owner will need it.
